Competitors were almost exhausted by the time they'd removed much of the ice from the track. Only 4 folk braved the conditions. Alan Connell looked set for an epic victory before an ill-timed vomit starting the last lap caused him to ease off, suddenly realising he had 780m to go. Joe McVeigh (fastest American in Boston '98 with 2-16-48) had the fastest runs, but like Alan, his Irish roots didn't prevent him from some unfortunate projectile vomiting. With hindsight, Bud was a poor beer choice, transisions should have been timed with a calander, not a stopwatch, so next year's event is already highly anticipated with some different beer, and hopefully some warmer weather.
Thanks to Noelle and Gaye for logistical and moral support and for getting us home safely.
This event is a lot harder than it seemed.
